On December 10, 2020 I went to the Mawa Ghat to see the construction of the Padma Bridge, the largest bridge of Bangladesh. On my returning I saw a hawker to sell Sapodilla inside the bus. I saw this fruit several times earlier but never tasted it. So I decided to buy some. I bought one 1 kg of Sapodilla by 70 taka ($1 = 84taka).
As I have never tasted it so I was curious to know about the real taste of it. The other members of my family were same curious as of me about this fruit. My elder daughter became very happy to see this new fruit. We were excited take the taste of it. As the seller assured me this fruit is very sweet and tasty, I told the same thing to my family members so that feel positively to taste it.
As told by the seller, it was really very sweet. If you have Diabetic, you should not eat this fruit. My family members loved to eat this fruit. I saw the selling of the Sapodilla tree in a supermarket. You can have a tree of this fruit on your balcony.
I came to know that this fruit is found in India, Pakistan, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Philippines, Vietnam. So this fruit is very much familiar to a wide range countries. This fruit is known as Sofeda in Bangladesh. It is known as Chiku in India, in Indonesia it is called sawo, in Cambodia it is called Lamoot. So far I know this tree does not grow in the cold weather. If you ever see this fruit you can buy to gate a special taste.
Sapodilla after opening.
You need to press by your fingers in the middle of a Sapodilla to open the inside of it. After opening you can eat it. Sapodilla may have 2 or 3 seeds. Seeds are a little hard and maybe dangerous for the little kids. So be careful while your kids eat Sapodilla. I took all the photos with my Samsung A51s smartphone.
Thanks for this post. It’s a very interesting fruit. It resembles a fruit out here in Nigeria. The seed does so much look the same, but maybe the fruit is different am not too sure. The one we have here could be sour atimes although you have a sugary sweet ones too.
There is a possibility that you may get this fruit in Africa due to similar weather. The taste may vary a little. Yes, we have the sweet one here. Thanks for liking the post and for your valuable comments @SholaIB
You are absolutely right that it tastes best if you keep it in the fridge before eating @Sophia_Cambodia . My mom also loves to eat this fruit very much. Thanks a lot for your comments and information. Stay safe.
When my mom got sick, this was like an angel fruit and she could eat more, thanks to it’s tender flesh. This is like energetic fruit @MukulR @. Some people even eat when it is still green as the resin from the fruit can cure down stomach problem.
Yes, it is not found all the time @KamalHossenR Keep your eyes open, if you see them again please buy a few, I hope your family members will love them to eat. Thanks a lot for your nice comments. Stay safe.
I have never seen the green Sapodilla, but as you told green one may have special power to cure the stomach probelm. The ripe one is easy and tasty to eat. Sick and old people can eat it easily.
