From level 8 to level 7

A few days ago I received an email from Google location announcing a new badge for my profile (which later turned out to be an error) and I just saw that about 5000 points had disappeared from my account with the consequent drop to level 7 in Local Guides, instead in my Connect account I continue at level 8.

To begin I understand and accept that there are rules of behavior to avoid abuse that carry penalties, not in vain I am a high-ranking member and moderator in the global community of the GPS navigator Waze, another of Google’s companies.

I do not claim anything from you, I only ask for your help in case you could tell me where to go in a more personal way to see if I can find out what happened or what I did wrong so as not to repeat it in the future because I am not aware of having acted wrongly since my Collaborations are quite spaced and in no way do I consider them incorrect, in the help center I only find generic answers that do not clarify anything for me.
On the other hand, I can’t quite understand the moderation / filtering process of certain places by the “system” because I observe that there is a lot of garbage in some places. While I have some places pending approval, I guess from another Locator.
At Waze, higher-level editors are those who moderate the novices until they are considered trustworthy and when an editor is penalized, they contact him in order to “educate” him in his work and only when he persists in his error is he penalized.

Hi @Dewitg ,

Thanks for reaching out to us and welcome to Connect! I wanted to let you know that I moved your post out of the conversation you commented and I created a new thread in the How-tos section so you can receive proper support from the community.

Can you tell us more about your issue? Are you missing any contributions too? In some cases the decrease of points can be the result of automatic deletion of your activity. Visiting My Activity, you’ll be able to check whether you have the 3 month/18 month auto-deletion enabled. If you delete answers to questions during any time frame, your answer will be deleted from Google Maps and the Local Guides points achieved with them will be removed too.

You can read the post How do I delete my answers to questions on Google Maps?, where you can find additional information.

If you verify that the auto-deletion is not enabled, please let us know so we can investigate further.

Hi @Dewitg

Even if points can be deducted for several reasons, I do not see a so big difference in points related to photos (only 20 are not visible) and reviews (all visible). There is one or more duplicate across locations, that I suggest you to remove ASAP (this is a violation of the policies), and a low number of answers. This (deleted answers) is the most common reason for loosing point, so please check what suggested by @Giu_DiB .

If on My Activity your setting is different from this one here below, your answer are automatically deleted and the points not given.

From the help page of Google maps: Answer questions , you can read:

  1. Make sure you have the latest updated Google Maps.
  2. Make sure that your Web & App Activity is on.

Many thanks to both of you @Giu_DiB & @ErmesT :
Reviewing the points you count, I have the automatic elimination disabled, in fact, reviewing my history, reviews, comments and photos from 5 years ago appear, it is possible that some have disappeared but taking into account that 30% of the points obtained in So many years I understand that Google would have described me as “the Gmaps terrorist”, it also seems strange to me to see that I have two different levels 7 and 8 depending on where I look (see photos of the initial post). I thought the Gmaps account was the same as the Connect one.
On the other hand, @ErmesT you tell me that I have some duplications, I’m sorry but I am not able to find them, the truth is that I do not handle well in Connect and my contribution here I use as a bidirectional complement to my contribution in Waze which is where I spend more time .
I feel if the contribution is not very beneficial for Google in the same way as the disappointment I feel when I see that the recognition that I thought I had from Google is not such (I suppose you understand me). In short, they are only points that will not lead me anywhere either.
Thank you very much for your dedication, I will continue here if before I am not expelled for misconduct
Greetings

Hi @Dewitg ,

Thanks for your reply. I wanted to make sure I can assess the situation in order to properly assist you: the fact that your see your reviews, and photos from 5 years ago, is not an evidence that your web and app activity auto-deletion is off. Can you confirm that you visited My Activity and you saw the same setting you see in the screenshot previously shared by @ErmesT , which I share again for your convenience?

Thank you @Giu_DiB
At the beginning of the previous post I said “I have the automatic elimination disabled” but since my English leaves a lot to be desired, I probably don’t explain it well.
I am attaching a screenshot of the screen that although it looks different, I think it is the same.
Anyway don’t worry, I thought this was all an error that could be easily fixed, if my work was deleted and Gmaps users cannot benefit, I sure do not deserve that score, nor do I care much about the loss despite of being almost a third of my contribution that will cost me more than a year to recover.
I appreciate your interest but I think it will be a lot of work on your part and we will finally find an insurmountable wall.

Cheers and thanks again to both

Thanks for your feedback about the settings, @Dewitg

This open an interesting scenario, because there are not a lot of reasons for the contributions to go down, and you only have a private photo, as you can see by comparing the contributions and your public profile

This said, the points for photos and reviews may be deducted if the place where you uploaded the content has been removed from Google Maps. In this case the photo will appear on your profile are related to an “unknown place”, as in your photos here below

I have never contributed in Waze, but as Waze and Maps belongs to the same company, I suppose they share the same rules. In any case, regarding duplicate photos, I can Explain. In Maps, the same photo cannot be uploaded more than once, and cannot be uploaded in more than one Business listing, as you can read in the Community policy : “Dark, blurry, and redundant photos will be removed. Users who duplicate photos across locations, … will also be removed.”

As you don’t see the duplicates, here a few examples

Inside the Red Square: Duplicate photos across locations - Inside the green Square: photos uploaded multiple times on the same locations

Duplicate photos across locations. This is also a perfect example of a duplicate place in Google maps. The correct action would be to merge the two locations, not to upload a photo twice, do you agree?

it doesn’t means that you are a Map Terrorist, but simply that you made some mistake, that is hopefully possible to fix.

In addition, one of the obvious reasons for the points to be removed is that you deleted some old photo from Maps, or from the album archive: https://get.google.com/albumarchive/ if the photos were uploaded to maps too.

Regarding your difference in Level, this is because Connect keep your highest level in you avatar here
