I used to think Caracas didn’t have much to offer anymore, until I started to drink coffee.
When I was younger I didn’t go out of my zone much, I went from my home to my school and back. All my friends lived near by. This all changed when they left Venezuela after high school graduation because of the political situation and I stayed, intending to move as a fully formed professional.
I started college and I had to make new friends. When I entered I started to go from the east to the west everyday. I met people from all around the city, and even the country. By then, I realized that I had much more to enjoy from my city.
At the beginning, none of my new friends owned a car. We had to move from one place to other in public transportation. Because of our country criminality rates, it was not safe for us to meet at bars and night clubs, so we started joining at different coffee shops near to subway stations in daylight. Those were our meeting spots, and I was amazed.
When I got involved as a Local Guide, it all made much more sense. I passed from looking envious at the pictures of my friends sparse in the big cities worldwide to enjoy from places they never got to visit while they lived in Caracas. I chose to show how great my city is. Now that I own a car and I can visit night places near by with other friends, I intend to expand the spectrum of my reviews.
It makes me really proud to show a tastier side of my Caracas.
