Regular customers taking group picture at Breakfast to Breakfast
As a digital citizen in a west African country (Ghana), it always saddens my heart to see reputable businesses and places that are sometimes not listed on google maps. Gone are the days we either ask people about locations or hold map sheets to navigate around a city.
Two years ago, I walked into a popular restaurant in Accra, Ghana, Breakfast to Breakfast restaurant, where I had a hectic time locating the property.
After enjoying my pizza, I approached the restaurant manager on registering his business on google maps for free in order to assist a lot more guests locate the restaurant. He gave me the green light to give it a shot after being a little skeptical.
I registered the business on google map and added all necessary information. On my next visit, I was told with shock how sales, engagements and customer feed back has ballooned beyond expectations.
What’s more fascinating about getting the restaurant online were the ability to monitor and track customer’s behavior, clicks, visits and feed back. This was like a turning point for the restaurant’s online presence and till date they can’t be thankful enough about this change.

I believe we local guides are the main ambassadors of serving google maps purpose of providing detailed information about geographical regions and sites around the world.
My contribution as a local guide has been more of a passion than participating, I feel the essence of serving a broader purpose of being a part of something globally impactful. Now I take more delight in teaching others how to also become local guides by not only giving unbiased reviews of places but also adding places themselves on google maps. Even though many Ghanaians are still adapting to the use of the google maps for geographical locations, I still believe the presence of more local guides will be a game changer.
