Hello people, I was trying to rename the restaurant located in Fifth Avenue Place in Calgary, Alberta, Canada is called Freshii. Freshii is Canada’s healthy fast food restaurant. I was trying to rename to “Freshii fifth avenue place” into “Freshii” and it was not applied. Why is Google not verified the edit in the first place? I never got my edit declined. It’s just a minor edit. All of the Canadian Freshii locations are all titled as “Freshii” on all Canadian locations. Editors and visitors go to Google maps to type in “Freshii fifth avenue place” to make a shortened rename as “Freshii”. Just to verify Freshii is Canada’s healthy food restaurant. The location names are too specific it has to be the national name only. I hope national brand names without the specific location will be allowed to shortened as “Freshii”. I hope it resolved. Thanks.
Hi @MapTrekker2
You are correct. Businesses should not add the street in the name/title field according to the GMB naming rules found here: https://support.google.com/business/answer/3038177 Click/tap on Name.
If you had shared a link to the place in question I could have checked if the place is claimed by the owners. But I guess it is. That will explain why it is difficult for you to get your edit approved.
You can reach out to the chain and ask them to fix the problem. And if that fails there is a form specifically to report such violation to the GMB team. You find the form here:
https://support.google.com/business/contact/business_redressal_form

Hi @MapTrekker2
I agree with you about the GMB rules about name of Places in Maps. However, if you make a search, you will see that this is the name used also in all Social media by the company, so it is very well identified with that name.
In addition, Freshii fifth avenue place is claimed in Google My Business, this means that the owner can revert back your change.
There are other two restaurant of the chain in the area, both in Fifth Avenue, and they have the correct name.
However, according to their website, all are using a name associated to an address
However, to go back to your question: an edit is not applied if it is not possible to verify the edit through information available online:
their Social media and Website are denying your edit, and what you are trying to do will confuse the Users even more, because will create a not uniformity of information.
For more details about the verification process, please read: Why is my edit status “Pending” or “Not Applied”?
The Business Redressal Complaint Form is not designed for this kind of issues, @MortenCopenhagen . If you check the content of the form, you can read: "If your complaint is not related to fraudulent activity on the name, phone number, or URL of the business, we will not be able to review your complaint. Please use these steps to report problems for all other Google Maps features.
If you simply need to correct an incorrect business name, phone number, or URL, do not use this form. Use these steps to correct the information instead."
Honestly I do not see any fraudulent activity in what the business is doing, but simply a wrong use of the name, that is not respecting the GMB rules
Hi @ErmesT
Thanks for your guidance on the redressal form. Would you care to elaborate on your definition of “fraudulent” since I see any violation of the naming rules to be fraudulent? I have several times been successful in getting ALL CAPS and Marketing slur removed from a lot of GMB listings through using the redressal form.
Re the case presented by @MapTrekker2 I did a search for “freshii nær Fifth Avenue Place, Calgary, Alberta, Canada” which results in 3 hits. To me, it seems the one named “Freshii fifth avenue place” has violated the rule to add a street reference in the name field. Though it’s kind of funny that it seems to be on the fourth avenue and not the fifth. And the photo showing the storefront clearly has no mention of “fifth avenue place”.
The two other hits are fine.
When looking at the website: https://orders.freshii.com/ca/lang/en/locations/pickup it is clear that the company internally names individual locations in different ways. Some with city names and some with street names. As I read the guidelines adding street/address references in the title is a violation. Adding a city name might be ok. I would love to find further guidance on this in official Google documents.

It is not up to me to elaborate a definition that is not mine @MortenCopenhagen . The text is literally copied from the “official” Business Redressal Complaint Form . I am happy to know they accepted your feedback and fixed issues about a name not following the rules, however this is not what they say in the document, where they invite to use a standard edit, or a send a feedback procedure, to fix issues not related to “fraudulent activity on the name, phone number, or URL of the business”.
I will ask @Bobiisha if it is possible to have an “official” feedback about this aspect, as GMB is inviting to follow a procedure related to the activity of the Local Guides.
I did a test inspired by your comments to see if the feedback path will be effective to remove “street references” in the name/title field of a claimed business. I will share the result.
I understand “fraudulent activity on the name, phone number, or URL of the business” differently as
“fraudulent activity in other fields than the name, phone number, or URL of the business”.
I was hoping for relevant links to understand better. Hopefully, @Bobiisha can help us out.

Hey @MapTrekker2 ,
Thanks for reaching out to us!
Can you please address this in the GMB forum since it concerns their rules?
