is a great place for any book-lovers to visit a Bookfair/ library. When it is about annual bookfair like the Ekushey Bookfair in Dhaka this is a heaven for all kinds of people of Bangladesh. It’s a large area fair and all visitors love to buy a book by visiting every corner of the fair as we know. It is normally alright for us but when it is a matter for physically disabled, blind, children’s & olds, it is very difficult for them. So in this situation, some youth volunteers were ready to carry (free of cost) any kinds of disabled to visit Ekushe Book fair to buy their favorite books & to meet with their favorite writers/poets. Because this book fair is also a center of all famous writers & poets gets together.
The spirit of the book lovers is nothing can stop their running and Switch Bangladesh Foundationhelped them to get free rides of a wheelchair. This is really a great and best initiative to build equal participation in our society.
There are so many things to learn from this initiative to free their (PWDs) abstraction. I found a lot of inspiration there to do for the disabled citizens in Bangladesh. Besides making accessibility awareness creating, we can also host like this event to inspire & come out disable citizen on the road.
@ShahMdSultan Lets take some step for the disabled of our society. Together we can make a plan like this. Hope in future we will host like this with you all passionate Local Guides in Bangladesh.
What volunteers do all around the world, for replacing with “time donation” what the institution are not able to do, is extremely important.
With our volunteer activity we can make the world more accessible, clean and green.
And of course sharing this kind of initiative is very important, because we need to create awareness.
Why I talk about “time donation”? Because this is the basic tool to measure the “physical” value of what the global community save, through the volunteer activities. But there is another value, much bigger and important, (at least for us) that pay our work. It is measured through the “smiles” and the “thank you” that we receive everyday. This is Priceless
@ShafiulB - this looks like an awesome initiative you have created. As @ErmesT mentioned, the power of time that we donate is a mighty commodity in our communities that can help so many people if we just think about what we can do to make a world a better place.
I bet you gave so much joy to the people who tried out and used your “free wheelchairs” during the book fair. It’s good business too because these lucky people were able to move around the book fair by themselves or with help from a caregiver and hopefully buy some some books which helps out the local economy.
Here where I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, many of the larger stores offer free motorized wheelchairs to customer who may need them to shop (notice the built in wire shopping basket.) These customers are able to shop independently without any assistance.
Businesses like these provide accessibility equipment free of charge as part of the Americans with Disabilites Act. They have to provide in order to get a business license to do businesses.
@ErmesT Thanks for your components & these nice explanation about time donation.
You are right, We got power and much inspiration by others smiles and appreciation with ‘thank you’. I am learning many things for your post & comments coz you are so clear & fresh minded.
@KarenVChin thanks for this comment. This kinds of initiative is needed in every developing and undeveloped countries more where no much mobility facilities.
Developed countries already some steps ahead about these facilities we know and these are always roll model for us.
During this free wheelchair service when i visited last time of the Book fair i saw how happy they are by getting this service.
Lets map accessibility & make the world accessible together.
