Free Lockdown Activities - Watch the African Wilderness Online

Hello!

Whether you are self-isolating or on a government-imposed lockdown - I can imagine we, especially as local guides, are spending a lot of our time on the internet. I consider myself to be a bit of a pessimist but I’ve decided to have a glass-half-full outlook at this crazy time.

I think it’s important that we recognise the struggle of those in our community who really have it bad during this time, but also to share some light and positivity where we can.

It would be great if we could share how we are spending our time and more so, if you have discovered free online activities; whether it be workouts, tutorials, courses, virtual meet-ups, gaming etc.

I love wildlife and the African bush, and just nature in general, I have discovered this great site which hosts interactive live sunrise and sunset safari drives. It is not only knowledgeable but simply amazing to watch elephants, lions, cheetahs etc in their natural habitat. The show is unscripted and real, so you never know what you’ll see - just like an actual game drive in Africa. There is also a show specifically for your kids to keep them entertained. Please share in the comments what things you have been up to online, we could use them :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m also learning Spanish on the Busuu app.

Hi @Robyn_L there are loads of Local Guides virtual meet-ups happening at the moment, you might like to check them out and perhaps join some

@PaulPavlinovich Thanks, I’ve seen them and have attended a few. Looking for different things outside of those virtual meet-ups :slightly_smiling_face:

Ah, but they’re not just talk fests @Robyn_L over the last few weeks I’ve seen quiz shows, trivia competitions, book clubs, knitting clubs, meal shares, five people same recipe cooking. Over the next week I’m giving a talk at lighting non Local Guide talk show (think Tedx but a much smaller friendlier audience) and I will be hosting a virtual visit to the coast.

My favourite though is a web cam in our Melbourne Zoo for the snow leopard cubs, you won’t see them often so you might need to watch for a while https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiOjZENkXw4

@PaulPavlinovich Yep! And thanks for hosting, it’s fantastic.

Thanks for the link but I don’t support zoos in any form.
