There is an inscription on the left stone pillar of the entrance of the Phalodi fort which is a major attraction for those interested in history. This inscription is written in broken Sanskrit language and is easy to read for those who can read the Sanskrit. This inscription has 9 lines. The inscription is engraved on the stone very fairly with proper spacing.
It explains that the repair of the fort’s entrance was done by Maharaja Hammir Singh, son of Maharaja Nar Singh of the Rashtrakuta family. I could read first line which is " II 60 II shriramay namah swasti shrau vikramarkasamaytita samvat 1573 varshe " and second line " “magsiramase sukala pakshe 10 tithau guruvare ashvini nakshatre raviyoge dina” and the third line inscribed as " i sivayoge idrshe mahamangalyamaye shubhamahurat rashtrakutavanshe maharaj shri narasingha " and fourth line contains many titles as mahapratapauk data bhokta saubhagyasundar bhogpurandar praja-palak sevakposhak vaya " and fifth line it’s inscribed that revargad [ma] nah swakiyavargapalanah maharaya-shri-hamirah karit pratolistambha udharitamah purohi. For Maharaja Hamir Singh that Son of Maharaja Nar Singh of Rashtrakuta Family who is MahaPratapi, Data Bhokta, Saubhagya Sunder, Bhogpurandar, Praja Palak, Sevak Poshak, Swakiyavargapalanah Maharaja Shri Hamirah. These titles are fantastic and rest lines are as
“pirohita divakar chahavana selahagha udhah bhati nauvaah mantrishvar ganga mantrishvar devaah ghatitah sutradharah”
" laakha putra sarvavastushastranipuna sutradhar ghannnaken shubham bhavatuh vajir govalah ॥ shrī "
Seventh line inscribed the name of Architect Lakha son of Gannakan who is Sarva Vastushastra Nipuna means expert in all Vastu Shastra. It inscribed few other ministers names in the previous lines.
For me it’s challenging to read this inscription fully, though it’s absolutely a historical record about the Phalodi Fort.
