Nature is where we retreat to, to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. From the serenity of the flowing seas and rivers, to the beautiful picturesque mountains and flowers, to the stunning wildlife that is all around us, nature has it all.
Hi Everyone, I am a Level 6 local guide residing in South Africa. I “joined” the local guide family at the beginning of 2017, doing simple reviews and not much else. To be honest, I do not even know how I joined, probably through a pop-up on my phone asking me to review a place I had been to. Neither did I know of the local guide community, nor did I know of the capabilities that the local guide program has to offer.
My wife became a local guide in 2016 and I always used to wonder what she did with all those pictures she used to take, especially the food pictures. I mean, who takes pictures of their food, right?? I used to laugh and joke about her picture taking until one day my wife sat me down to explain why she does what she does. My wife showed me all her reviews and all the views she received and this made me think, I am probably one of those who googled a place and read the reviews before deciding to go there. My wife had been contributing to the greater community, helping, and influencing the decision of people all around, for the betterment of all and to provide people with insights of what they might be in for.
A movie trailer provides a sneak peek to the upcoming, much anticipated movie, be it a thriller, horror or drama. However, at the end of the day, it is a movie experience, not a real life adventure. A local guide gives you a sneak peek into the world and the beauty that is on offer, be it the people, the places, the wildlife or the endless activities. All real world life experiences and daily interactions that we as local guides provide insights to, for our local communities and the world at large so that they may make informed decisions and choose to experience something that may tickle their own personal interests. That is what the Local Guides Program means to me.
My love for nature is strewn across all of my contributions, especially my photo contributions. South Africa might have its problems in terms crime and the economy, similar to many countries across the world. However, what South Africa has to offer by way of natural beauty, surely makes up for the former. South Africa is an all-round beautiful country, with endless stretches of beaches to the countless wildlife nature reserves. As a Local Guide, I wish to show-off God’s stunning masterpiece creations from around the world.
