Foot Prints in Vaikom Mahadeva Temple, Vaikom, Kerala, India

Luckily, I got an opportunity to visit the ancient Shiva temples in India. It has become easier to understand the harmony of art and spirituality. The depiction of mythological stories through sculpture actually brings together the thoughts of the creator and the public on one platform.

The tank of Vaikom Mahadev temple is very beautiful and clean and hand railings have also been installed for safety. On the way back, when I went to enter the temple, I saw footprints in the Dandavat mudra on the stones moving towards the entrance. I saw this for the first time, so I tried to know about them.

The footprints leading to the sanctum sanctorum are devotional and spiritual symbols. They strengthen the path of devotees to attain enlightenment so that they can get rid of negative emotions and transmit positive energy. These symbols are also called Shiva Pada which indicate the presence of the deity who provides spiritual guidance through worship in the temple. These footprint are a medium to connect with the invisible God in reality.

I was amazed to learn the reality these foot print marks which are leading to the sacred sanctum.
