Food experiences that give you a reason to smile

It was a rainy Sunday afternoon and I was having brunch with my friends in a Mediterranean restaurant in a quiet neighborhood of Toronto. We talked, laughed and savored every bite while enjoying the homely and cozy vibe of the place. As we asked for the bill, the server came back with a choco ice cream cake and a small candle on the top. She offered us a complimentary dessert to celebrate my birthday. We were quite surprised as we did not tell them that we were celebrating my birthday. But they figured it out from our conversations and the exchange of gifts. They all sang the happy birthday song as I cut the cake. And I left the place with a big smile on my face.

For me, the greatest eat-out experiences have not been about the food or its presentation. They have been about the little things that matter. It is when people take that extra care, effort and go beyond their ‘job description’ to make those few hours of your life memorable.

In our busy daily lives, we often forget to notice and appreciate such small gestures of kindness. So when I come across such beauty in the world, I share their stories on Google Maps to show my gratitude. These are the places that are making people happy through their love of food and serving others. And they deserve to be recognized.
