I just listen to @JanVanHavers’s latest podcast episode on Shopping centers.
And I came to think about a problem I have encountered. In multifloor shopping centers you can come across pins that are not tied to a specific floor. They show up on all floors. I guess they are just “normal” pins placed on the map. But what should we do about them? Of cause we can contact the shopping centers marketing folks and suggest they fix it. But some seems to be from spreadsheets batch-uploaded by chain stores without regards to the indoor floorplan.
Here is one such example:
Q-Park Magasin du Nord

The parking garage is in the basement only. On the map it seems to be on all floors.
Hoping someone can advise what to do.

Hi @MortenCopenhagen ,
When you use your mobile phone, you can edit the pin and actually select the correct floor. This does not work on desktop. I noticed that there are lots of places in this shopping mall that need fixing.
Happy mapping!

That is news to me. Fantastic, @JeroenM . Thanks a million. I will try it out asap.
But it does not solve the problem that some chain stores keep reuploading their spreadsheet data in order to overwrite any changes Local Guides make.

At the Mappers Academy, @Briggs wrote a post about this (Reasons study-group). It was some time ago, so it is possible that he also wrote a nice report here on LGC where he told his story about calling the actual head-offices of one of these chains and trying to track down the employee that managed the spreadsheet.
I was so impressed!

I will visit the 5 story department store tomorrow and see what can be fixed by local guides. And I will report back.

Hi All and in particular @JeroenM ,
I returned to the big multilevel department-store today to test how local guides can edit pins on an indoor map. My results are not very positive. 1) I have not been able to stop any floor penetrating pins unless I remove the pin completely as it was permanently closed. 2) I have not been able to move a pin tied to a wrong floor to the correct floor. 3) It seems that I can move a pin around on the floor it is tied to. 4) I can also edit other texts on these pins as were they normal pins.
Some of my attempts are still pending so my conclusions could change later.
The amount of errors is huge. Honestly I had to give up on trying to clean it up.
@JeroenM , when you mentioned the we can edit the floor level on a multistory indoor map, what would be the steps to follow? Obviously there are no level indicator in the Location field (the address). I did notice that the pins need to have the “Located in” field set correctly. I’m guessing that when we adjust the pin position, then the last level we selected should be the one saved. But I have no proof it is works like that.
I suspect that moving pins between levels is reserved for the shoppingcenter owners in a dedicated interface.
It would be highly appreciated if a moderator with specific knowledge on this would chime in.
