Hi @DrShaunak ,
Great photos, thanks for sharing them with the community. Is this an annual event and who can participate in it? What do you use to draw on the ground?
I am curious to find out some more details about Saraswati Puja.
Thank you for sharing with us @DrShaunak
Hi @MoniDi
Thank you for your reply.
Saraswati Puja is our (Hindu’s) annual festival, celebrated every year on the 5th day of Magha month (Bengali Calendar month) - English would be during month of mid January/February.
Anyone can participate in this event and its open to all. The puja is called Basant Panchami in many states of India and specially in West Bengal we called this Saraswati Puja. Saraswati is our Goddess of Knowledge. So mainly teenagers and school going children of almost all Bengali medium schools of our state celebrate this puja at their school premises/ residence. Their wish to Saraswati for scoring good marks in examinations/careers and concentrate in studies.
Those picture I posted here ;were taken at my school premises (Chatra Nandalal Institution) where I studied from 1994 to 2002. Earlier I took some 360 photos of my school. I am sharing a pic below where you can see surrounding areas of school premises.
This year I met some children of this school who drew the nice floor art. They used oil paintings over floors, then put some flowers (mainly marigold) on it. Also used some colorful clothes for decoration.
@MoniDi P.S. I am unable to embed 360 pic in this post due to some error. Here is the Google maps link.
@AbdullahAM Thank you.
Hey @DrShaunak ,
Thank you for the detailed reply. It sound like you had a lot of fun and it is always nice to go back to your school. This brings out so many childhood memories.
If you are not able to upload 360 photos on Connect, please read this article How to make a video of your 360 to share on Local Guides Connect. It might be one way to do it.
@DrShaunak your post is really amazing. I loved all the artworks done by students. One thing I would like to request you not to translate or change the name of artwork… as you have mentioned Alpana/ Rangoli as floor art. Let it be popular in it’s real name or origin name. World should see and appreciate the art in it’s original form.
Like some people mention Hanuman as Monkey god… why We don’t need to translate our God’s Name. No other countries blogger translate their God’s name or Art firm’s name. Hope you get my point and take it in a positive way.![]()
