Update: This issue has been solved by the kind help from @ErmesT . See his reply below. You find the settings here: Menu | My Settings | Edit | Preferences | Linear Layout | Sorting order within topics | Default (Oldest first) and not threaded.
When we look at the order of posts in the Idea Exchange all posts are listed according to when they were posted, so the newest post will always be at the bottom of the list of comments. This is straightforward and easy to understand.
In the other sections here on Connect the order is a mix of when the comments were made and to which reply a comment is given to. Then the next reply might sneak in (jump the line) and disturb the order again and again.
This makes it a lot harder than it needs to be when you want to read an existing thread and make sense of it. The result is that some comments relate to comments that are further down in the thread. So honestly it has become too hard to follow the line of thinking. It’s too easy to lose track of the arguments.
On other fora, this has been solved using real nesting. Or some way we can reorder/sort replies as needed. I’m not sure how best to fix it, but the current solution is not as user-friendly as it needs to be.
This has been suggested before like here: https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/Idea-Exchange/Connect-forums-Structure-of-the-posts-and-comments/idi-p/2564305
And two more are listed here: https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/Idea-Exchange/Connect-forums-Structure-of-the-posts-and-comments/idc-p/2581107/highlight/true#M53980
I hope the team will give priority to get this fixed ASAP.
Thanks
