First Man on the Moon

No I am not Neil Armstrong but the statement ‘First Man on the Moon’ describes the high I get from uploading uncharted territory into the virtual world via google maps.

My Journey started about five years ago when I purchased a Nexus 5 smartphone and received an invitation to join the google guides initiative. To be honest I was initially more ensorcelled by the bait of extra free storage on google drive but after becoming an active member in the community I was hooked. I added my place of work at the time (GISL), my favourite local restaurant (Angie’s) and my local barbershop just to name a few.

What I particularly enjoyed was the notifications I would occasionally receive to add missing information about places already included on Google Maps. One day after binge watching Star Wars I decided to take a chance on my favourite pizza place not knowing if they would be open after a quick google i realised that the opening hours was missing. After reaching the closed restaurant :frowning: I received a prompt to add the opening hours to which I obliged. Today that picture has helped over 200 persons avoid my disappointment.

Overall my joy from using Google Guides stems from the ability to continuously add information about my tiny country and like Neil make small steps everyday.

Thanks for reading!
