First Google Guide Indulgence - a travel Tryst with 'Queen of Hills: Shimla'

Hi Fellow Enthusiasts,

I am a Local Guide from Delhi, India. Quite happy to share my first post of Local Guides and take you on a journey of what excited me to be part of the Google Guides.

I have a natural inclination to food and travel by the usual nuance of being a social animal, and by the virtue of having worked in Travel Industry since past many years. Call it a Occupational hazard or total interest in the industry, I am quite fascinated about travelling, talking to people, knowing about different cultures and finding colours. I had been living the corporate life right after college, but thanks to google guides programme, I have been giving life goals to all the sloggers of corporate world, for I get to update my travel and food indulgence on a legit platform.

I love to update information on Google maps about -

  • Different hotel properties

  • Cafes

  • Colourful food mostly.

Sharing about my little ‘Google-filled’ tryst with one of the beautiful hill stations of India commonly known as ‘Queen of Hills - Shimla’

Like any new person or a complete novice, I made my first alone trip with friends ( without parents travel in India = alone trip ) to the city beautiful Shimla. Like Colgate is to Paste, Cola is to cold drink, Google and Maps is to all the know-how about a place. I am a spontaneous person by nature and usually never plans, and for any questions about the trip from my friends, the inner voice says ‘Google exists bro’. Only the date was prefixed, for everything else I love to '‘Play it by the ear’. We all follow maps not knowing that we can be the ones updating it as well. It all started when I almost believed that a friend is a ‘Writer in the making’ and I asked about the story of the book. In return I got smile as an answer, and the page where I could update my stints on Maps.

Overwhelmed by information provided by Google for every nook and corner, I loved to update MAPS about different places that made my experience worthy and help others read and find out information. The moment we left the bus, we found a fresh fruit seller. We introduced maps to him, and he felt happy to know he can be found online as well, outside a hotel by anyone. Maps is for anybody and everybody.

After eating the fruits for breakfast, we had to freshen ourselves hence a staycation was required. We found Treebo Varuna on google, and what a small cozy hotel with great views. My google eyes found the best view and it made our stay completely worth it.

A coffee is to a cafe. Maps helped us find this oldest Coffee House on The Mall road, existing since 1957. Fabulous cafe spot, you get the vibe of historic times here. One has to have the Coffee here and hear stories from the helpers running around. As a responsible person, I did update maps about the yummlicious Coffee and about the place. Please give benefit of doubt, I wasn’t this good a reviewer back then.

Since I love to find the pecularity of cafes and creative bend they display, we spent the whole day walking Mall Road in the rain and eating periodically in different cafes. Sharing few snaps of my cafe walk. Every Cafe has a different special, like in Cafe Wake & Bake one has to eat and pack the ‘Apple Pie’. Trust me Gods give you blessings for this amazing Apple Pie.

Apart from famous Hotels and restaurants, I happened to find an exclusive homestay. One can make a long stay in Shimla or even buy them for only about 48 lac or so. Property could be a 1BHK with spacious kitchen, grand balcony giving unhindered breathtaking 270 degree panoramic view of hills. Such flats one can get for efficient living in Kasumpti, Shimla. Ideal for stay for elderly, families with small children and also young couples short on time.

I love to find the exclusives. One can feel the difference as to how Google Guides programme must have changed the perception of looking at things / food / places. Now I try to detail my observations and connect with people more.

I am certainly a happy and a proud Local guide.

Cheers to all reviewers!

Great share , thanks Ishant. Yes Himachal is close to heart, for we have been the witness to how it has evolved over the years, with very organized traffic rules now, the shopping area being Noise free and music clad. By mere looking into the depth of valleys, give that sense of peace and serenity.
