By far, one of the most challenging and uncomfortable things I’ve done has been moving across the country from a very populated and well known city (Tacoma, WA) to a less populated location (Fort Bragg, North Carolina). Through this quest, I booked hotels usually the day of and found amazing restaurants. Furthermore, places I will return to. Google maps was there to help me every step of the way.
Having now settled into my new home, I realized quickly my favorite Mexican restaurants and places were no longer available. I had to start from scratch. It was my first time living outside of my home state, in a completely new atmosphere (cold to hot, north to south) and was in desperate need to find my community and sense of belonging. You could say, I was having an identity crisis based on the move.
Local guides has helped me find some of my favorite places to eat chicharron, carnitas tacos, and other comfort food that makes living in my new community, a little easier. It’s much more than just an application: It’s comfort. Knowing I have this resource that encompasses other local guide’s perspectives and knowledge, puts me at ease. I know that if I want to find a new adventure or simply to feel at home, I can turn to local guides for help.
