Before joining Local Guides I was not confident exploring the city where I lived. I used to think that Jakarta was so broad and complicated to understand. Now I understand that my thought was totaly wrong.
After becoming a local guide and joining the community, Jakarta became easier to understand. I learned a lot about google maps, learned to use various modes of transportation, and the most important thing is I met friends who have the same passion.
When I hosted Worldwide Photowalk meet-up, it was my first time visiting Old City Of Jakarta (Kota Tua). It is the largest heritage area that full of historical stories of Jakarta. I was so excited and since then I’ve became a fan of heritage sites.
I started to visit museums, photowalked at ancient areas, joined historical tour, I tried to explore the beauty of ancient Jakarta. It is so amazing when I found out that this city has so many beautiful antique places.
I share possitive impressions and photos on Google maps about those places, wrote the experiences at my social media and Connect. I want all the people in the world know that I live in a beautiful city.
I also found out that Jakarta has so many stories about colonialism, a time that has raised great local heroes and became a legend. I heard the stories when I visited House of Si Pitung.
I hope, this exploration will be beneficial for the historical development of Jakarta, as well as Indonesia. Hopefully the local government will be more active in preserving and restoring heritage sites.
And the best part of all, I explored those hidden treasures with my Local Guides friends. Thank you guys, I’m so proud to be part of this movement.
