I think what Google Maps has provided a power to all the local guides is to bring into the lime light so many small and hidden businesses in a particular area which were unknown to masses. I love to explore such places and add them on maps. This has helped many people near me. It helps to the business as well as consumers.
Google maps being life line of almost each person having a smart phone; helps people to find a grocery store, a gym, a nutrition store, a pharmacy etc. in the area which they are new to. Google maps provides us; the local guides, to list each and every possible small businesses in the area so as to make it reachable to the prospective consumers.
I recently came across a person who started his business of making Home Made Protein Bars. I found his business and product really great but as it was not known to people, it was under too dense fog to get noticed by prospective consumes. I took all the details and added his business place on Google Maps. This led to a remarkable change in his turnover as well as many health conscious people who were in search for similar product came to know about existence of such a product manufacturer in the city.
So google maps is really helping in this regard. Kudos to the local guides contributing to list all the small small business places and making Google Maps a perfect place to even find a shop in a new city selling toothpaste; early in the morning (as we can add the opening and closing hours too).
