Finally Google lets Android users create public events on Maps

Hey Local Guides,

So after many requests from you all, Google will now let us create public events on Maps through the app’s existing Contribute section. It will allow us to set the name, location, date and time of the event along with tags and images.

“You can add public events to Google Maps from your Android phone or tablet,” this is what Google said on the Maps support page.

Why event listing is important?

Event listings would help users streamline time-specific activities and choose what suits them best.

P.S: This implementation is a little laggy at the moment, with events taking up to an hour to actually appear on a map. Hopefully, this improves as the functionality is more widely rolled out.

@RishabhBansal1 Have you got the update? I know this has been rolling out and I can’t wait to try it. This will be a good addition to the Maps.

I don’t have the feature yet. Very excited to get this and see events going on in the area that others have out in!

Little laggy ? You mean ‘very buggy’.

And I noticed in that context, that there is a lack of ‘cover photos’ for the villages, municipalities and towns.

  1. Just ‘like’ photos of POIs of your village, municipality or town.

  2. The google maps algorithm will select the photo with the most likes, but only photos with landscape, cityscape, buildings are allowed

  3. Possibility to flag a photo (e.g. violation).

I meant it will take time. The process is slow. @OkerJoker
