Filter Tourist Attractions

Hi

From time when google trips have been abandoned I’m struggling to find good replacement.

google maps filtering is somehow unknown for me when I create my trip as a list.

thus I have some question:

  • is there a way to filter (in different way than default) tourists attractions based on their average users score?

  • is there a way to see only certified google POI (those with advanced info)?

  • is there some additional tools to create trips like in former google trips ? (I’m using actually lists)

Hi @gabrjel

When planning a trip and I need to inform fellow travelers, I usually create a Google My Maps rather than a Google Maps list. Please check it out.

Sorting in Google Maps is adaptive. So it will try to show you places that match your search history etc. Also, in the app there are some filtering and sorting options at the top. Please see the screenshots below.

You can swipe sidewise to see more options.

The concept of Google-certified POIs is not really a thing. Try sorting by popularity.

Hi @gabrjel

Indeed Google Web Search itself is pretty well redundant.

Google Maps has also a simple filter beside/below the search bar to click on and find Tourist Attractions in an area. There is also the ability to filter them based on users’ ratings. Moreover, when you search the name of one city it shows the most well-known tourist attractions of that city as “Iconic Places”.

These are the places that Google suggests. Note that we have no Google-certified places but the places that Google AI consider them as high attractive for people. Many such places in many countries are also verified through the GBP so their authorities prepared resources to do more than what you can do on Maps. Other top tourist places may have also a special icon or a larger pin with a photo on the map of a city (or other destinations).

You can also use Google Travel which is several tools for planning a trip. You can save destinations in a list called “Travel Plans”.
It is also possible to use directions and add tourist destinations as stations or use Google My Maps to customize your trip plan.

Oh sorry dear @MortenCopenhagen

I was writing the comment and saw your reply after posting.

No problems at all, @Amiran

I think both answers are relevant and helpful.

Thank you for your answers - I know those already - however (except own maps) I know all of the provided solutions and somehow they don’t work as expected.

example - filtering by 4stars+ show attraction made by users with 1 comment or 1 score of 5 stars leaving those with 5000 scores + and score of 4,5-4,6 disappearing.

I would like to know how to improve filtering score - it’s obvious that score of 4.5 with 5000 comments etc has more value than 1 with 5.0 score.

this systems somehow stopped working effectively especially when zooming - first stopped on web version (Windows, Mac) then recently I observed same on iOS (iPad iPhone)

Okay, then you will need to be a lot more precise on what you expect and what you get. Please be concrete, share the search terms and location and zoom level, so it can be reproduced. And show on screenshots what is wrong and describe what you would rather see.

Then we might be able to explain or escalate the problem.
