I used to live in Portugal for year and a half and all this time I tried to explore Portuguese culture, which is really unique!
But most of all I enjoyed visiting different beaches all over the Atlantic cost, there are hundreds of them in Portugal, and each has special colours)!
Mostly, people like to spend time on the southern part of Portugal, as the weather is very mild where, you can swim in the ocean all year long and the waves are not very high in general. My favourite beaches are in Algarve area.
Covered by golden cliffs, the ocean water is still and blue, while the sand on the beach is powdery)
Praia de Bengali and Benagil cave is considered the most popular place in Algarve among the tourists.
Nevertheless, on the western part of Portugal you can feel the real power of the ocean - with its enormous force, specific smell, sometimes very cold with big waves, but nevertheless very beautiful and fantastic!
Nazare beach - known for the most giant waves in the world (in autumn and winter period). In summer it is quite still.
Beaches in Ericeira are also popular among the surfers all over the world.
Baleal beach (in Portuguese - the beach of whales) was known in the earliest times as a places where the whales were hunted, now it is a very picturesque place with specific rocks!
Two more photos from my favourite beaches in Portimao.
The ocean is a large magical and mysterious organism! And being near it is a great happiness!
