Festive World Foods Season

A friend said to me the other day,

‘Do you have two celebrations at Christmas?’

I nodded and said,

‘I’ll have chicken for the Christmas dinner.’

On further reflection I said,

‘Some miss out on the different festive foods’ around the world because they forget about their cultural heritage.

I like the Dutch Christmas cake, burritos and a soup called tong yuan.

This soup, which I like a lot and which I tend to have around Christmas time is ‘tongyang’ pronounced,

tong yuen.

It is like a good luck soup for the new year and which can be either sweet or savoury. Both are equally nice.

Hi @Kol-Colleen_2018 ,

Thank you for sharing this photo with us. Do you like Christmas? The tang yuan soup looks so tasty. Can you prepare it yourself and why not share the soup recipe with us? In my country we prepare turkey for Christmas, it is our traditional dish.

Thank you @InaS yes I know how to make the soup so I will do that recipe as soon as I can!

You’re right @InaS about authenticity because my mum only goes by what she has seen others do it

So how I do it is just relevant to how I have tasted it.

You’re spot on with authenticity.

I’ve only just seem your response @InaS but also as another staff member said on our family forum we all have different tastes so list the ingredients of the food tasted in a restaurant for others to see if they like the ingredients used.

Well the other day a relative treated me to a meal and we decided to get the set menu for 2.

The waitress said to the relative, next time order individual dishes because it will be how you like the dishes. I said to the relative ‘but I like this set menu it’s what I would order anyway’.

I didn’t review the place (the atmosphere is so welcoming though) because with some Asian shops etc, you get the feeling they prefer to remain anonymous. Odd but true!
