Fernandes Heritage House, Chandor, Goa

Chandor once a prominent Capital of ancient dynasties. It’s also known for Iron ore minings. In this town one can witness the Portuguese and Hindus influence in culture and tradition. Fernandes Heritage house offers a realistic view of the Colonial era of Portuguese.

Though this is a well maintained heritage home of Fernandes who settled 500 years back. At the back of this house Kushawati river flows and facades facing the main road. Fernandes’s descendants are taking care of this heritage home.

It’s having a nice collection of households and other belongings. Palanquins, dressing table, carved wooden furniture and wardrobes, paintings, pictures, utensils, lamps, in house Chapel, and a lot of other antiques are on display which were collected by his forefather. This house had witnessed the Goa liberation too as Bullet marks can be seen. Here the images of Shiva temple are also preserved which was demolished by Portuguese and a Church was constructed on the temple site.

After witnessing the bullet marks at the ground floor the rear side river Kushawati flows hardly 100 steps away. It’s a private museum or heritage home open by 9 am, and it’s a must visit attraction.
