I started traveling before google maps was ever popular or you can easily buy a mobile internet package for your phone. I remember my first trip I was using a map, an actual real, paper map and I was so afraid to get lost. Those times when you have no apps to help you, you need to trust your gut and use your surroundings for your rescue. You starting to talk to locals, read signs, try to understand a foreign language and remember what did you learn in school that might help you to survive here.
Now days, those kind of trips are simply impossible. Since you can feel in anywhere you’ll visit, like you’ve been here before, like everyone who have been here before is connected to you and you are not alone. I used an online map and communities every time and it doesn’t matter if I travel alone, with my family or friends. I can always count on it. Even in my home town, whenever I have a question or just want to get a second opinion, I can count on someone to help me out!
And it’s one thing to research a general information about the place that you are visiting and it’s totally another thing to experience that place via someone else eyes. It doesn’t mean that I will get a better or worse time, it just means that I will get something unique, that I will be able to share with other, later on.
