I am a local guide from Turkey and I want to say that it’s a fun for me to be a local guide.
I have to point out that while this is a volunteer job I take it serious. Because in today’s world, social platforms and social media have an important place. You can use those tools both in positive and negative ways.
It is useful to share your ideas and photos on google maps in order to inform other people before they visit those places. Specially it is priceless to check reviews and comments when you are in a new city or country.
But the most important thing for me as a local guide is promoting new businesses. There are many cosy and delicious places which are not well-known on social media or even they are not on social media. As soon as I find such a place, the first thing that I remember is to take pictures and put them on google maps. At that point google maps and being a local guide serves to my aim and I feel pleased to have such a tool.
As a conclusion I can say that adding new small businesses and introducing them to other people, supporting and promoting those places makes me happy
