Feasting during Fasting

Food is the source of all inspiration and to put that remark to test, Mumbai has an amazing pit stop. This place is opened only for 30 days in a year after which they shut down and everything goes back to normal as if nothing was there.

I am talking about the infamous lane Mohd. Ali Road, in a small suburb, called Masjid in Mumbai City, India. The people here in Mumbai are well versed with this place and the reason it is operational for 30 days is that it carries out its business in the month of Ramzan (Muslim Calendar) where Muslim population generally fast (Roza) from dawn to dusk.

The place is operational only after the fast gets over that is in the evening and mind you once it gets over its a feast in this place. people from all over the city pour in this place to have a bite of delicious and yummy food. from Tounge soup to Phirni, Haleem to Sherbet, Kebab to Maal pova, Khichda to Rabri jalebi you get each and everything over here. heads up to all the people reading this and planning to go there. I would suggest you wear easy and loose clothes, coz you are gonna sweat like anything over there. it’s chaos over there. Such a huge crowd so many people that a lot of time you have to wait for your turn to come up so that you can place an order and then dine.

Few of the things to try over there.

  • Haleem (these are prepared overnight with lentin and lamb cooked together and continuously stirring the mixture)
  • Tounge soup
  • Khichda
  • Seekh kebab
  • Titar (A Pheasant bird)
  • Rabri Jalebi
  • Maal Poova with Rabri (ask him for double ka)

I would also like to suggest you go along with a group of friends so that you can try most of the dishes rather than going in a couple or single and getting filled with a dish or two coz the portion size is big and they will not serve you tasting size.

For a foodie, this place is a heaven and trust me you only get a single chance to visit such a place.
