Family Friendly Adventure in the White Mountains

The White Mountains of New Hampshire is an amazing place to take the entire family for a vacation. It’s the perfect combination of nature and family entertainment. New Hampshire is home to 48 mountains that reach up into the sky further than 4,000 feet. Most of these peaks are located in the White Mountain region offering up some amazing hikes and are home to some of the best ski resorts in the east that also have adventure parks during the spring, summer and fall seasons.

Towns such as Lincoln, on the west side of the White Mountains and North Conway on the east side offer up some amazing local restaurants, shopping and family entertainment. It’s important to note that New Hampshire is a tax free state for shopping as well. Family friendly amusement parks such as Clark’s Trading Post in Lincoln, Santa’s Village in Jefferson and Storyland in Glen provide some family entertainment for those that are looking for something more than miles of hiking, fishing, and canoeing.

The White Mountains also boasts the tallest peak in the east, Mount Washington, rising to 6,288 feet above sea level which can be reached by hikers on several trails, the auto road that allows visitors to drive their car to the summit, or the iconic Cog Railway that transports visitors to the summit house. Some of the most beautiful panoramic views are located in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. In fact, sometimes you don’t even have to leave your car.

The Kancamagus Highway connects Lincoln on the west to Conway on the east. It’s known to New Englanders as one of the top traveled roads for “Leaf Peeping”, a term created for all of the visitors that come to the northern states to check out the vibrant colors of the fall. It’s true the “Kanc”, as nicknamed by locals, is one of the best scenic byways in the United States. This road offers some of the most scenic switchbacks in the area. Many hiking trails and waterfalls, such as Sabbaday Falls (pictured above), are only a few steps away from the car off of this byway as well, making it one of the most traveled roads in the state.
