The autumn in Tierra del Fuego is particularly beautiful, as the leaves of the native trees in the area (Ñire, Lenga y otros) go through three colors - the green of summer and spring, the red and gold of autumn, and then the bareness as winter approaches, falling to the ground and starting the eternal cycle of seasons.
What better excuse than the colors and a sunny Sunday morning to drive to the city ofTolhuin, the heart of Tierra del Fuego
. The drive from my city, Río Grande, takes almost an hour and covers about 110 km.
We went out for lunch with the family at one of the most beautiful places in Tolhuin, the Kaiken. This inn has been around for many years and is a must-stop for every tourist passing through Tolhuin. In addition to the dining room, At some point, we stayed and waking up to an almost absolute silence and a spectacular view of Lake Fagnano is the best thing in the world.
The viewpoint that the inn has is spectacular. When you go outside, the wind from the lake hits your face or the lake snow, like it did yesterday. We had sunshine and then a small drizzle of lake snow, and then it went away and the sun continued to shine. The edge that overlooks the lake shore is a nearly straight and very steep cliff. To get to the shore, there is a fisherman’s ladder, but it is closed for safety reasons.
Continuing outside and around the inn, there is a beautiful walk with well-maintained grass and movie-like views of the lake.
The walk is not very long, only about 100 meters or a little more, but at the end of it, you can see the sandstone cliff.
The whole landscape is spectacular, but in the end, I didn’t say much about the food. Well, it was very tasty. It seems like everyone decided to come to the Kaiken because we had to wait a bit until a table became available. Each of us ordered very different dishes, and they were all very delicious. I’ll share some photos of them with you.
After a while, we started our return trip. Since I was driving, I couldn’t enjoy a nice glass of wine with lunch. Currently, there is a zero-tolerance policy for blood alcohol content in all of Argentina.
Until the next trip!
