Exploring the unexplored: a local guide's experiences

Living in a country which is one of the most popular travel destinations in the world, nothing would stop me from reviewing its places on Google Maps! I am Samal Nadeeshan from Sri Lanka and let me share my story as a local guide. Sri Lanka, which is also known as the Pearl of the Indian Ocean, is very popular for its diverse history, multicultural heritage, incredible biodiversity, traditional food and spices, and for its superior quality tea.

Google reviews guarantee that transparency and social proof are at the forefront of my online presence. By providing reviews on Google Maps, I feel that I am contributing towards my community in a better way by making their businesses popular and helping them to grow. As a passionate traveller and photographer, I love sharing about various destinations and popular restaurants in the country.

Best place to have a creamy, chicken rich cheese pasta around Colombo, Sri Lanka. Tea Avenue makes the tastiest pastas which I have ever tried and I want the local community and foreigners who visit Sri Lanka visit this place and give this pasta a try. By the time you wait for the delivery, you may try their chocolate milkshake “Ferrero Lavish” which comes with a ferrero rocher on top. Highly recommended!

Sharing about various travel destinations as well as great restaurants I personally like and recommend gives me a lot of self-satisfaction by helping people to understand what’s good, moderate or bad. One of the most important things that I tell myself when I review a place is to be as accurate as possible, so that I do not misguide anyone! To tell the people the truth, to show them reality, that’s where true beauty lies within, so I always share my best shots with the world.

I have given below some of those captures which truly inspired me to start sharing travel destinations and restaurants on Google Maps.

Little Adam’s Peak attracts many travellers who visit Sr Lanka as well as this place is very popular among locals. Gradually with an easy hike up to the mountain (1,141m in height), you can consummation a worth panoramic view. It’ll take around 35-45 minutes to reach to the top of the mountain on a zig-zag path… You have to walk through lush green tea plantations, waterfalls and paddy fields while enjoying the sceneries. It will be priceless if you could visit the place in the morning when the clouds roll in. I must say, it will feel like a neck exercise for the visitors as you have to rotate your body to seek the views outstanding for 360 degrees. So why not put this eye catching place to your bucket list if you haven’t already?

Best place to visit if you need some good air to breath. Ella Rock is situated in Ella, a small village in the highlands (Badulla district, Uva province) Sri Lanka. This place was on my bucket list for several years and I’m glad finally I was able to hike the mountain. The trek to Ella Rock is about 8 km long and is quite easy if you follow the track (1,041m in height approximately). This place has a rich bio-diversity, dense with numerous varieties of flora and fauna, and surrounded by hills covered with cloud forests and tea plantations. If you are in Sri Lanka or if you are planning to visit Sri Lanka, this is a must see place!

They offer a wide range of flavors for their unique “rolled ice cream” varieties. All are freshly prepared and very reasonable and affordable prices. If you are travelling nearby Horton Place, Colombo, taste these delicious ice cream definitely. I personally like the uniqueness and the fact that they have a wide range of flavors to select from.

Being a foodie, restaurant hunter, nature lover and a photographer I am enjoying posting reviews about places I visit locally. This platform really help the community to find more about a place before they actually visit there and that would help them save their precious time. Therefore, as a local guide I will always help to improve Google Maps by reviewing and sharing what I love most to the community.
