Koh Rong Island is a tropical paradise off the coast of Cambodia, famous for its pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and lush green forests. In this blog post, I’ll share my experience of exploring the natural beauty of Koh Rong Island with my two friends.
Journey to Koh Rong Island
Our journey to Koh Rong Island began from Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia. We took a bus to the mainland city of Sihanoukville, which is the main gateway to the island. From Sihanoukville, we took a speedboat to Koh Rong Island, which took us about 45 minutes. The boat ride was smooth, and we enjoyed the stunning views of the sea and coastline along the way.
Upon arriving at the island, we were delighted to find a hotel that offered tent rooms right next to the beautiful sea beach. It was a unique experience to be surrounded by nature and the sound of the waves crashing on the shore.
Prek Koang Kang Ecotourism Community (Mangroves Forest)
One of the highlights of our trip was visiting the Prek Koang Kang Ecotourism Community, which is a mangroves forest located on the island. We took a guided tour of the mangroves forest, which was a first-time experience for all of us.
The guide explained the importance of mangroves in maintaining the ecosystem of the island, and we were amazed by the intricate root systems of the trees. Although we didn’t spot any animals during our visit, the natural beauty of the forest was breathtaking.
At Koh Rong Island, visitors can also rent private boats for fishing and diving in the ocean. We decided to give it a try and rented a boat for a few hours. We caught some fish, and our boat captain showed us the best spots for snorkeling and diving in the clear waters of the ocean. We were amazed by the diverse marine life that we saw, including colorful corals, schools of fish, and even a sea turtle.
In the evening, we returned to Long Set Beach, which is a stunning beach on the island. The water was crystal clear and very clean, and the sand was soft and white.
We set up a BBQ and grilled the fish we had caught earlier in the day. We enjoyed the evening with some music, drinks, and great company.
Long Beach
The next day, we visited Long Beach, which is one of the most famous beaches on the island. The beach is stunning, with crystal-clear water and soft white sand. We spent the day sunbathing, swimming, and relaxing on the beach. We also rented some kayaks and explored the coastline, which was a lot of fun. In the evening, we enjoyed some local music near the beach restaurant and soaked up the island vibes.
Conclusion
Our trip to Koh Rong Island was a truly memorable experience, and we were able to explore the island’s natural beauty, enjoy some exciting activities like fishing and diving, and immerse ourselves in the local culture. Koh Rong Island is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy a tropical paradise.
