One of the most beautiful and unique places we have visited since moving to Northwest Arkansas is Thorncrown Chapel .
It’s set into the woods of the Ozark Mountains in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and almost entirely made of glass. With a total of 6000 square feet of glass with 100 tons of native flagstone used for the floor, it is the most beautiful church I have ever seen.
It is free to visit, and worship services are held there as well as weddings. In fact, over seven million people have visited Thorncrown chapel since it opened in 1980. The Chapel, which has won multiple design awards, started as the dream of Jim Reed on land he purchased to build a retirement home. With the help of donor from Illinois he was able to fulfill that dream.
I visited on a weekday and there were quite a few other people visiting as well. There was a staff member on site to answer questions and gave everyone a brochure. The natural settings are so beautiful, and while inside the chapel you can see outside all around you, even the sky above.
There are many attractions in Eureka Springs, but Thorncrown Church is a must see.
