I love to share since I was a child. I couldn’t stop blabbering about all the stories that I knew. I was telling strangers about my school and the teachers. I was telling fellow commuters about the neighborhood store and the shop’s owner. My family didn’t like my excessive sharing but hoped that the sharing might push me to a journalism path. Around 17, I got my first phone with a camera and started taking pictures of places that I visit. With age, I had more money to travel to new places and take more pictures.
I arrived to Finland 5 years ago and I discovered Google maps while I was exploring around. I found that Google maps contribution combines three of most favorite activities: Travel-discovery, photography and a lot of sharing! I made my first contribution when shared my favorite spot hologram picture on google maps. Since that first picture, I shared countless great experiences with humanity. I tried other services but I never found a complete service as good as google maps. Finding places is upmost convenient. In one application, you can find a place you are looking for and traversing to that place with your method of choice. Using google maps, you get the distilled experience of countless helpful humans who share their knowledge. As the cherry on top of Google maps, you receive a monthly report on how far you have towards the distance from earth to the moon!
While it might seem natural for people in this forum to share, it might be hard for others to understand. What might be the reason that pushes people to share on Google maps? My reasoning is simple, sharing is essential to humanity. Our first ever recording as specie is cave paintings of humans sharing their environment and experiences. Google maps is simply the most ubiquitous and convenient method to share in the modern day. When you share a beautiful place with people, you are helping people see the world differently. Sharing is the best feedback loop for the whole world. Writing a review to a business would boost that business and help to grow. In the worst-case scenario, it can help the businesses identify their falls and fix them.
