Exploring My Favorite Place In Nepal For Application Video

When I received an email from Google Local Guides saying I’m almost eligible to apply for Connect Live 2019, I was happy, as well as shocked. I was level 4 at the time, barely a few points away from being level 5.

The deadline was still 50-something days away, and I leveled up a few days later. Then, I had exams in my college and didn’t get to focus on my application much. The deadline was coming closer, and I thought I wouldn’t make it. I wanted to give it time and do my best.

Slowly, the deadline was just five days away, and I began panicking. I was wondering if I should apply right away or wait for next year. Only three days ago, I picked up my bag, called a friend and we went to my favorite place - Bhaktapur, to shoot the application video.

It was a fun day in Bhaktapur. We were exploring every galli (narrow alley) talking to the locals, only half understanding their local language, which is different from my mother tongue. Everyone in Bhakatapur is gentle and kind, and very helpful. It’s so fulfilling to be there.

The one thing I love best about Bhaktapur is how it still reflects the art and culture from ancient times. I love the painting, the pottery, and traditional architecture with intricate wood carving — also the food.

Then there is this small shop where they sell the best yogurt, called Ju Ju Dhau in the local language, which means the king of yogurt. About 50 steps away, there’s an old Newari-style building where they sell absolutely the best chatpat (a local street food) in the world! Sometimes I travel more than 15 km from my home only to relish the burst of flavors from this food. My mouth is watering just as I am typing this.

Finally, submitting the application was fulfilling to a point that when I saw the “Thank You” message on the screen, I was tearing up a little. :')

Well, here’s my application video if you want to watch!
