Exploring Alcatraz: Island of Seabirds

@Twister411 and I are signed up for this upcomingGreater Farallones Association Sanctuary Explorations on Saturday June 2nd.

"Alcatraz Island, infamous for its federal prison, supports the only nesting colonies of Brandt’s and Pelagic Cormorants inside San Francisco Bay.

We’ll be joining an Alcatraz bird docent and sanctuary staff for a walk through the seabird rookeries to learn about their ecology and current conservation status.

We’ll discuss the significance of Pigeon Guillemots, Black-crowned Night Herons, Snowy Egrets, Black Oystercatchers, and many more."

These areas are not normally open to Alcatraz visitors… Tickets include round trip ferry ticket and the usual Alcatraz audio tour of the famous prison cell block which you can do after the bird walk!

I would be happy to post this as an LG Meet Up here if there is any interest. Please comment if so.

These adventures are so worth it. I remember going out with the explorer group years ago to Alcatraz and we got to go into the infirmary which is normally closed to the public. This will be just as amazing to explorer areas normally closed off to the public. Can’t wait.
