I’ve been using Google Maps for many years, in fact since it even became a mobile app. I love it for many reasons that I’m sure are common to a lot of us users (sharing experiences, tips, discovering hidden gems, the capacity that it has to enable users to make it even better through contributions, etc). Nonetheless, one of my favourite ones is the fact that you can ‘star’ places (and now use different labels to classify places too). Over the years I got into the habit of ‘starring’ any places I went to or wanted to go to. Saving places I visited was great because that way I could remember them better and share them with friends. Saving places I wanted to go to, for instance on a motorcycle trip, it’s great because then I can easily find them when on the move, make up routes, etc.
Over the years I’ve accumulated over 1750 locations that I’ve visited all over the world. It’s great to go back to these on my maps as I can then go on satellite or Street View and recall good memories - almost like checking out and old picture album! Moreover, increasingly what I find is that if I need to go somewhere and I search it on Maps, frequently there is one of my starred places nearby and thus I can easily work out how to get there without needing directions or even recall a nice visit or event that I may have forgotten about.
