Archeological museum founded in 1865 exhibits artefacts, such as coins, manuscripts & sculptures.

A watchtower was constructed in 1784 by Tipu Sultan. It includes an underground storage area once used for storing gunpowder. Historically, it’s believed to have a secret route leading to Mysore, though it is currently closed.

Started in 1913 by the Italian Jesuit Fr Chiapi with minerals, herbarium and a collection of Roman coins, a gift of the Collegio Vieta, Italy.

The place is known for a mircale where, when Fr Joseph Vaz was about to be killed, he went down on his knee, lifted his hands and pressed his staff hard on the ground and prayed. From the spot where he pressed his knee and the staff, springs of water gushed out and a bright light shone around him.

A magnificent shrine dedicated to Baby Jesus at Carmel Hill, Mangalore by the Carmelites. Five huge columns encircle and uphold the main structure while rising to a height nearly double that of the roof and converging under a globe atop which is planted a luminescent Cross. While at the base the shrine is hexagonal, the roofing is pentagonal.

Hindu temple, founded in the 10th or 11th century, with bronze statues. This temple has Hindu and Buddhist histories. This temple was known as Kadri Manjunatha where Manjunatha relates to Shiva and Kadri is derived from Kadri Vihara which was a Buddhist monastery of the Vajrayana cult. In front of the temple, at a height, there are a number of water ponds. There’s a garden surrounding the ponds.

The temple is of significant antiquity and is believed to have been built during the 9th century by Kundavarman, the most famous king of the Alupa dynasty during the 9th century, under the patronage of Matsyendranath. As per another legend, the temple is believed to have been built by Parashurama, one of the ten avatars of the Hindu god Vishnu and later expanded by Kundavarman.

Built in 1885 by Rev Father Joseph Willy, is a replica of world renowned Sistine Chapel at Rome. Bro. Antonio took only two and a half years to complete the work in Mangalore.

The ideal months to travel to Mangalore are October through February, considered the peak season, so anticipate some crowds and tourists.
