Experiencing Ikorodu - LASPOTECH Leisure Walk

Ikorodu is a fast-growing suburban settlement in Lagos and it shares a boundary with Ogun. While it boasts a few commercial activities, major occupations comprise farming and trading. As expected, many roads, businesses, and places are yet to be mapped but this would change in the course of time with the efforts of Googlers in the vicinity.

Since school mapping is something I’m passionate about, I and a couple of Local Guides visited Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH) to see what the school was all about. LASPOTECH is the only government-owned tertiary institution in Ikorodu and it was established in 1977.

We had the opportunity to visit four of nine schools namely School of Engineering, School of Environmental Sciences, School of Technology and School of Pure & Applied Arts. Each of the faculties has numerous departmental buildings closely knitted with one another. Kadiri (a Civil Engineering student) was our guide.

On the surroundings, you couldn’t help but notice lush greenery as you meander through the neatly tarred school roads. The school definitely has substantial excess land even as constructions are ongoing. I’ll be sure to cover a lot more about the school on my next visit.

Hi @Adebambo ,

Just to let you know that I’ve moved your post out of the spam and it is now visible publicly. Some posts are being automatically marked as spam, apologies for that. You can visit this article to learn more - Why was my Connect post marked as spam?

Is this a recap of a meet-up? Do you add many facilities?

Hi @VasT , thank you for making my article public. It wasn’t a recap. I just had a casual visit with friends and decided to share it. What I noticed is that, there are places within the school that are missing on the map. I’ve made a map edit which is under review. I also noticed that some of the school centers do not have visible signages so adding those as missing places on the map may not get approved.

I have two questions.

  1. Does Google have focus areas or some kind of thematic sections for mapping in 2019?

  2. How often does the Google satellite view update? This answer may be specific to Lagos, Nigeria.

Thank you once more for sharing your meeting @Adebambo . Also, you may organize an official meet-up yourself. Once your meet-up is approved, it will automatically appear as a post in the Meet-ups topic section for other Local Guides to participate.
