Experience Pongal: A Taste of Tamil Culture and Tradition

Pongal, a vibrant harvest festival celebrated in Tamil Nadu, India, is a time of joy, gratitude, and cultural richness.

This four-day festival, typically falling between January 14th and 17th each year, marks the end of the harvest season and pays homage to the Sun God, Surya, for bountiful crops.

Shor, but very informative post @MathanVibranarayan . Yes as you mentioned this is the best time to visit Tamilnadu. Madurai is the heart of Tamilnadu. Last December I had planned to visit Madurai with my friend. But cancelled the tickets, due to my friend’s family circumstances. Will surely plan in near future.

Even though it’s been 15 years since I visited my hometown in Chennai, I still remember the sights and sounds of this major festival of South India. My paati used to prepare all the dishes, Thatha used to perform puja. Aviyal, sambar, rasam, beans poriyal, ven pongal, sakre Pongal, vadai all were part of the menu. It’s a five days festival where each day holds significant importance. Thank you @MathanVibranarayan You really got me nostalgic, I traveled back to my childhood. Sometimes, all we wish for is to turn back time and get our childhood back. பொங்கல் நல்வாழ்த்துக்கள்
