Expanding your Local Guide Instinct

I will say a little about myself to explain what Local Guides program means to me.

It was in August 2018 when I first hop into an airplane and flew to Tampere Finland for an exchange program, never before in my life had traveled outside my country so I had a lot of sensations running through my body, sensations of excitement and fear. As I prepared myself for a brand new experienced I did tons of research about “being for the first time abroad”, “how airports are”, "what not to do in Finland … I investigated because knowledge gives me confidence and, I was scared of being by myself in a new country that I just had known on paper.

During my research, I found “Couchsurfing” which is an app that allows you to meet people especially travelers. It was the philosophy and the spirit of the app that introduced me to a community that is built by trust and the love to share. Couchsurfing led me to meet amazing people, to experience new cultures and different food from all over the world. It was thanks to this community that I got the chance to share my culture and, to enrich others through mine, this is one of the reasons that I fell in love with this app.

Now I am back in Mexico and recently discover the community of “Local Guides”, Before that, I just used to write reviews and take pictures of the places I went to just for my desire to help others, that´s how I got into the level 7 of Local guides. Now I am aware that there is not only a program but a community behind it and for me, it’s a big opportunity to start building this community in my hometown and to showcase what can this program do for others specifically in terms of cultural exchange which is what I feel the most passion of, similar to what happened to me with Couchsurfing, I have the desire to share and help because I know and I am proof that a community build by these feelings can achieve so much.
