A Science Park fascinates people of all ages.
It does not matter if you studied science at high school or college, there is insight and entertainment for all.
Just people-watching is a great pass time here since most of them are wearing excited looks on their faces after witnessing the mysteries of science unfolding.
So, I invited local guides of Pune to join me for an accessibility check at the Pimpri Chinchwad Science Park in Pune last Sunday, 4 February 2024.
The recap is covered separately.
The specialty of the Science Park in Pune is the ‘Automobile Gallery’ where vehicles are cut open from various sides revealing the mechanisms and wiring that lies inside.
In mechanical engineering terms this is called a cut away section view.
The premises are well-maintained and clean. The staff is well-trained and polite.
Though the best part of the exhibits were the large-scale models of automobile parts that are normally very small in size in real life.
For example, the spark plug used in an automobile engine is barely the size off a thumb.
But out here the same spark plug can be seen in 10 times the size.
This helps in understanding automobile parts better.
I have visited the Science Parks in Bangalore and Delhi previously.
And in Pune, the automobile gallery is unique in all Science Parks in India.
The Science Park of Pune also has a Planetarium adjacent to it and for which the ticket must be purchased separately.
There are also 3D shows every 30 minutes though I did not watch it.
Watching people queuing up enthusiastically for each show was entertaining enough
Here the main center of attraction for most visitors - a huge pendulum hanging from the roof.
A similar but larger pendulum is also installed in the Parliament of India in New Delhi.
The best part of the Science Park is the very economical rates for the Science Galleries, planetarium, and the 3D Show as well.
Besides, that there is the special ‘Fun Science Gallery’ which exhibits the famous ‘Twisted Mirrors’ and other science-based interactive games.
Tickets are at 50% discount for school children below the age of 12.
Accessibility
They have a huge parking space for 2-wheelers and 4-wheelers which is covered separately in the accessibility check at this place.
How to Reach
The place can be reached by metro by taking a hire auto or tuk-tuk from the PCMC Metro Station or by the Pune City Bus also infamously called the PMT.
Where to Eat
There is a cafeteria inside the Science Park campus that sells light snacks, sweets, Tea, and Coffee but outside the main gate are numerous cafes and restaurants. I ate some sandwiches with Coffee at Cafe Durga
