Google Maps has rolled out a handy feature that makes curating and navigating saved lists much more visual: custom style emojis for individual places and custom tags within lists.
Managing saved places in Google Maps is much faster when you can distinguish spots at a glance instead of digging through identical pins. Using custom emoji icons and list tags turns your saved collections into visual itineraries.
What’s New?
Set a Pin Style for Individual Places: When saving a spot, you can now choose a specific emoji icon (such as a coffee cup, burger, shopping bag, or celebration face) to represent the pin style directly on your map view.
Custom Tags with Emojis: You can assign custom tags paired with emojis (like 🍔 Burgers, 🍞 Veg, 🍕 Pizza, or 🫓 Dosa) to individual spots inside your lists.
Visual Filter Chips in Lists: Inside a curated list, the added tags appear as interactive filter chips right below the header, making it simple to sort and jump straight to specific categories.
Detailed Place Notes: Alongside the new tags, you can attach customized descriptions and recommendations directly to each place in the list.
How to Set Up & Organize Your Lists
Create or Open a List: Navigate to the You (or Saved) tab in Google Maps, tap New list (or select an existing one), and choose an emoji icon to represent the whole list on the map.
A heartfelt thanks to @NareshDarji for sharing screenshots from Android to confirm that this update is rolling out smoothly across both iOS and Android devices!

Sukses terus ya
I wanted to share a friendly reminder regarding the use of Google logos. The image you used for the post includes the Google Maps pin logo. As per the Local Guides branding guidelines — which state that Local Guides shouldn’t use the Local Guides logo or any other Google logo without formal approval from Google or outside of Google sponsored events — we need to be mindful of this. Therefore, please redact your post and remove the Google Maps logo.
You are very welcome @TitikMariati! You are absolutely right - Google Maps updates and new features usually roll out in phases across different regions and accounts. Hopefully, you’ll see the update reflected in your app very soon!
Thank you so much for the kind words and encouragement.
Happy mapping!

Happy organizing and mapping!
Hi @TsekoV, thank you for reaching out and for the clarification.
I have updated the cover image of the post as you said.
I understand the concern regarding the use of Google branding. However, I’d like to clarify that the pin used in my post is a common location-pin emoji/symbol and was not intended to represent or reproduce the official Google Maps logo or any Google branding.
Could you please share the specific element in the above image (previous cover) that you believe constitutes the Google Maps logo, or provide a reference/example of the logo you are referring to? This will help me understand the concern correctly and make any necessary changes.
This is a really useful update. Custom emojis and tags will make saved places much easier to organize and identify at a glance. Thanks for sharing such a clear and helpful walkthrough, @KetanChhaniyara bhai.
Thanks for sharing this information @KetanChhaniyara . I have very less saved places and henceforth I will save places. Your video is very useful and thanks again for the update. Keep guiding.
Thanks for the detailed guide, @KetanChhaniyara. Its very useful for the community. I already have this feature on my phone and am using it quite often.
Are you referring to the generic symbol used for pin as “”, which is also available in the list of emojis on any text editors app/software?
What a useful and exciting Google Maps update!
Custom emojis, tags, and filter options will make saved places much easier to organize and identify. I especially like how users can categorize places such as cafés, restaurants, shopping spots, and more at a glance.
Thank you for sharing such a clear step-by-step guide with helpful screenshots. This feature will be useful for travel planning, meetups, and organizing favorite places! Happy mapping! @KetanChhaniyara
