Examples of Color Temperature settings shown by shooting autumn leaves

THETA Z1 での撮影にて、ホワイトバランスをマニュアルで設定して、その違いを確認しました。
被写体周りの色温度に合わせて設定すればいい塩梅のホワイトバランスになります。

カメラの色温度設定は
高くすれば「赤っぽい写真」になり、
低くすれば「青みがかった色合いの写真」になります。

黒体放射が、温度が高ければ青白く、温度が低ければ赤くなる、というものだと知っている人には
逆になっているように感じられるでしょう。

その理由は以下の点線の間をお読みください。

同じ被写体の場合に色温度の設定を変えて撮影すると、
10000Kという高温の星は青白く輝いてますから、その光の下で青白く見えている景色を普通の色に見せるために
赤や黄色の発色が持ち上げられた色合いに修正されます。
あたかも「色温度が低い景色」であるような色合いに写真が仕上がるわけです。

同様に、2500Kという低温は、赤くどよ～んと光る赤色矮星のように赤く見えます。
その光に照らされた景色でホワイトバランスがちょうどになるように、青色が強調されます。
つまり、あたかも「色温度が高い景色」を見ているような色合いに仕上がります。

明るい日中の太陽光は5000Kを超え、真っ青な空での正午でやっと6500Kくらいまで上がります。
電球やろうそくの光、そして太陽光も朝焼けや夕焼けのときには2500Kまで下がります。
パソコンの液晶画面はギラギラと9000Kを超えた色温度に設定されていることが多いです。

では、具体例を示します。

なお、ホワイトバランスをautoにして撮影したものは、今回はだいたい5000Kに設定したものと同じになりました。

ホワイトバランスをautoにした場合、画像の色合いを見て判断しているのであれば、
もし、視界に青い部分が多い場合には、その景色は色温度が高いと判断されて、
全体的に色温度を下げる方向(赤が強調される方向)に修正されるのではないだろうか。
もし、赤い部分が多ければ色温度が低い景色だと判断されて、色温度を上げるように(青を強く)修正されるのではないだろうか。

以上の仮定をして、色紙を使って実験しました。

この試みは失敗でした。
全球の 1/4 程度の面積を青っぽくして、色温度が高い画像であると捏造しても、

意味のあるような差は感じられませんでした。

ましてや、底面だけの狭い面積に色紙を配置して色温度の判断を誤らせようという試みは、まったく成功しませんでした。

上記の実験では、青い色紙を敷いた写真を色温度が高い景色だと誤認して、色温度を下げるような修正をしてほしかったのです。
しかし、そうはなりませんでした。

結論として、地道に色温度を設定して、撮影して確認して、修正して、、、という作業を行うのが王道であると判断しました。
でも私は、手持ちHDRモードで、ややプラス気味のEV値を設定したときの色合いで満足しています。

私の知識の範囲では、いくら丁寧に設定してもこれ以上きれいな発色にはなりませんでした。

もう1つの方法は、撮影後になんらかのツールで色合いや明るさ、コントラストなどを調整することです。
RAW(DNG)で保存しておけば、階調の不足もなくエレガントに調整できることでしょう。

RAWを選択した場合でも、HDR合成や手持ちHDRモードの撮影ができるようになると良いですね。
私は、たぶんパソコンの性能不足のために未だにRAW現像からステッチまでを完了させることが出来ていません。
ですが、いつの日かRAW現像が出来るようになる日を夢見て、大事な写真はRAWでも保存してあります。
しかし、その場合にはHDRモードは使用できないのが現在の仕様なのです。これはちょっと残念な制限だと思っています。

I absolutely think how-tos board is to share How-tos, not for asking. We can learn the great tips from other LocalGuides here. IMO, this post fits the best in How-tos board.

And @potaro67 is one of the greatest SV Trusted Photographers on the globe. People call him “King of Blue Line”

I know that moderators can move posts to other boards while keeping the link alive. However, for example, when a post is moved to the SVTP board, the following error may occur depending on the authority the viewer has.
