The countdown begins as we are only days away from #EuroMeetup2024 where we, @AdrianLunsong and @PeteMHW , your organisers and hosts are dotting our i’s, crossing our t’s and dancing to the sun god to make sure that everything is ready for our attendees!! This is going to be our biggest event yet and we are so eager and excited to finally be able to share everything that we’ve been planning (well, when the day arrives… not now)!
Date: 6-9 June 2024
Location: Manchester
Schedule: See this post for details (it hasn’t changed much)
Registration is unfortunately closed now. We are expecting around 38 Local Guides from as far away as Melbourne, Australia ( @PaulPavlinovich ) and California, USA ( @jayasimha78 ) to join us across the four days. A big huge “THANK YOU” to them for their commitment and participation as we can imagine the flights are expensive!!
This is actually a really big group to try and move all around Manchester!! And with all the fun filled activities that we’ve planned along the way, we really hope these folks are able to power walk their way from venue to venue!! Sorry, @LuigiZ but there won’t be time for you to do your dancing on the streets!!
During this event, we are also going to be hosting an Open Day session with the primary aim of informing the general public about the program. We hope to cover briefly what the program is about, the benefits etc and then do a session where we would share our experiences as a Local Guide. It’s going to be very casual and simple! For more info, do check this post and please help to spread the word about the Open Day to your social circles! Thanks!
The usual travel tips:
- Manchester is known for its grey and dull weather and we’re usually a few degrees colder than London! So although it’s summer, bring an extra layer to keep you warm and dry (it will rain!)
- Wear good sturdy shoes as we’ll be walking and standing a lot!!
- Most places accept cards and contactless payments (Google Pay, Apple Pay etc) but always bring some cash and coins
- Power banks!! Expect your phone to run out of juice before the day ends so bring your power banks! Don’t forget your adapters to match with our UK sockets
- As with any big cities, please be wary of your surroundings and look after your belongings; pickpockets are very rare but it can happen! Travel in groups where possible.
We know…we know…way to bring the mood down!!! But just getting them out of the way, so that the only way now is up, up, up!!!
For the Connect community, you can probably follow the event via our social media postings! We’re not sure who in our group are big on social media but we’re sure there will be a few. We don’t have any virtual events planned at the moment; our workload is actually really high as we get closer to the start date so we don’t feel confident in setting up a virtual call mid way through the event. There’s also a technical issue of ensuring fast Internet connection for the call.
For the EuroMeetup attendees, we hope that it’s going to be smooth sailing from now until 9th June so that nothing will get in our way!! Happy packing and see you all soon!!!
