If you ever wanted to climb Europe’s highest and most active volcano Etna it is much easier than I was thinking.
You can start the journey from Taormina, where you can already see the magnificent view of
Etna from the stunning Greek Theatre.
Before going directly to Etna, buy water and food as there are designated picnic areas on the mountain.
Drive to Linguaglossa and take the circular road around Etna’s north slopes, to see extraordinary lava fields.
To climb Etna itself loffow to Etna’s south side, Rifugio Sapienza, the departure point where you can take a cable car ride over the lava slopes of Etna, brings you thrillingly close to one of nature’s most savage and
primordial landscapes to a height of 2,500m (8,000 ft).
You can take a jeep trip if you have to intention to hike, continuing upwards to see the craters, as long as there are no eruptions in process of course ?
That looks epic, and I bet during your climb you are having a thought in the back of your mind that this mountain could erupt at any minute which makes it even more exciting.
