'Environmental Selfies' - My 360 photography Adventures...

Hi Folks…

I recently have taken back up photography as i was a RETIRED Professional Photographer (5 years retired) , but when i bought my new phone, it came with a 360 camera… so with this 360 it challenged me as a new tool and how to use…

the samsung gear 360 was the camera and it is an INTRO to 360 cameras and can be purchased for less than 100 dollars.

but after using it for 2 weeks i realized i wanted a higher level camera and opted for the Insta360 One X camera as the software is very easy to use.

in learning this new camera, i started to take ENVIRONMENTAL Selfies as a trial and now i have made that a Staple of my travels. Get to a cool landscape attraction or object and take that Environmental Selfie…

so things i have learned.

  • the new 360 (insta360 camera) can do many things

a. take normal 360 shots and post on facebook as true 360 shots (with panning and zooming)

b. take the 360 shot and refram to what ever perspective you want like the examples i have shown above

c. take gyro-scope - gimbal like anti shake video where the footage is super smooth and is full 360

d. take footage in video and make it a time lapsed short clip like Clouds dancing over a Landscape or Main Attraction item.

  • software you will need

a. Insta 360 native app

b. color editor like Lightroom from adobe, or Free Snapseed - all the photos above were edited in Snapseed

How i took these shots

  • Camera is “Insta360 One X” - Cost is 400 dollars

  • extra long selfie stick - about 6 feet long - cost is 30 dollars

  • processing of images with the OEM software that Insta360 provides on Desktop mode

  • color correction “software - Snapseed” free on Android and IOS did all these on my phone

work flow - File exported to desktop, flatten out the view desktop, sent to my phone via cable usb C, then process images in Snapseed and then resized for desktop monitor with the short side of 1100 pixel for best sharpness.

if you guys have any questions i would be happy to respond and edit to the post at the top.

thank you

Hello @Phamstagram360 . Thanks for your post, although I am going to be critical.

Sphere photos do have an effect that most of us are aware of now ever since 360 photography came about. Most sphere pictures don’t make us (viewers other than yourself) aware of what it is you are showing. The only person who knows what the picture is, is you.

Someone recently asked a question, asking if it was okay to post sphere photos on Google Maps. My reply was, Why? Why would someone want to put sphere photos on Google Maps. Anyone other the person who posted the photo wouldn’t know what it is.

Panoramic photos are more useful than sphere photos. 360 photography has many benefits so it is knowing how best to use the photos rather than just having a sphere effect.
