Raja Mahal is the epitome of dynastic grandeur of Orchha. Its first royal residence was built by King Bharatichand during his reign. The Darbar-e-Aam and Khas were prominently constructed by King Madhukar Shah. After more than four and a half hundred years have passed, even today they are telling their story of pride.
The entrance of this palace or Raja Mahal is an attractive arched gate made of red or dark brown stones, provisioned in an iwan. The right upper jamb of stone frame has been damaged. Iwan is a multifoil archway. This gate is of three storeys and the middle storey is built with three multilobed archways, either side small arched windows and three latticed arched ventilators above the archways, hanging balcony supported by stone brackets and stone balustrade as railings. The upper floor balcony is made of dark brown decorated stone pillars and multilobed arches which are supported by stone brackets. Railings made of stoneâs balustrade which are adding beauty with safety. The entrance gate is richly decorated with stucco and corners are projected with decorated columns made of plaster at all the three storeys. At the top there are two minarets adorned by domes.

This entrance opens in a rectangular room whose vaulted ceiling is decorated with colorful eye-catching leaf patterns. Iwan is also covered with vaulted ceiling. This entrance is to access the main palace area after Machhli Darwaza and outer courtyard.
