Entire shopping disctricts in one sweep - episode 1

A few months ago, I decided it would be a good idea to also do some really targeted photography, instead of randomly taking photos whereever life happened to take me. Since then, I have systematically “mapped” 5 different shopping districts (streets or malls). The first one I did was the shopping district in the center of Mortsel, near Antwerpen, Belgium.

Over a two day period, on 24 and 25 July (so precisely 2 months ago today), I photographed all, well most, storefronts in the area. On maps, it looks like this:

162 Poi’s in total, most of them storefronts, and 1 church.

The star photo of this series, is one of a restaurant, with some 137k views in precisely 2 months time.

The one that suprised me the most, is a photo of a simple fabric store, with more than 64K views in 2 months.

In summary:

  • 162 Poi’s (photographed over a 2 day period)
  • 137.374 views for the star photo
  • 866.920 views for all the photo’s combined
  • which comes down to an average of 13.983 views per day

Since this one, I have “mapped” 4 more shopping districts until today. I will post something about those, also at exactly the 2 month mark, for comparison.

@Ion_Taranu this is highly commendable and helpful especially during this period when businesses are gradually opening.

Surely, the views will increase as more people search for goods and services.

Do you add reviews to say if they are opened or not?

Thank you for improving the Maps and providing updated information for users.

Cheers.

@EmekaUlor I don’t make reviews to say if they are opened or not, no. But I did notice, surprisingly, that quite a few were open whilst still marked temporarily closed on the map, which I then corrected. I was also surprised to see that quite a few had no pictures on the map except for google street view, and even that some didn’t exist on the map at all. Incidentally, as I later did 4 other shopping districts, I found that the poorer or less developped the area was, the higher the incidence of no or incorrect/incomplete presence on the map.
