When I first entered the Company of Jesus in the historic center of Quito I had a powerful sense of greatness, a feeling I had experienced very rarely in my life, probably when I looked at NY from the top of the Empire State Building or when I shouted goal in the Maracaná, I do not know how to describe it but I will try.
When entering the change of light is very strong, the sun shone on the street and suddenly the gloom, so that after 5 steps the pupils contract again but now because of the strong glow caused by the light when bouncing in so much gold that covers intensely every corner of the interior of the church.
My head orbited throughout space and my body turned on its axis, my mouth open and my senses drunk, time stops before such beauty, questions flooded me, how? who? when? with what? In what way? But the answers did not matter, just my feeling of gratitude and greatness.
The years went by and I developed my 360 photography technique to the point that at last I could partially simulate some of my sensation and be able to share it with the world, the technique possessed it, the idea was in my mind, the logistics were very well planned but the platform that would make it happen? nothing more and nothing less than Google.
Google for those times was in South America still starting what is the use of Virtual Reality with virtual tours or Google Street View, I tried the tool and I realized its great scope.
The day arrived, I started at 2 A.M. my mobilization to Quito, I live in Ambato a small city to the south and only 2 hours away, I traveled with my father who would be my assistant because the shot had its degree of difficulty, I will explain soon.
When I arrived at the Company of Jesus the morning was beautiful, it was not in my plans but I took advantage of it and made the first shot in the street, I got the impeccable facade and a sky in several blue and red volumes of the day that was about to begin.
We entered at 5 o’clock in the morning and again I got drunk the feeling like the first day, only this time it was interrupted by my father who asked me for instructions, so I went to the chosen point and started unpacking all my equipment, I would use my tripod with an adaptation that would allow me to place my camera six meters high, almost at the height of the eyes of the Blessed Virgin and from there I would make 13 shots that when I put them together would give me the final result that photo I wanted, that neither I had seen it before, at the height of the Virgin.
With the help of my father I got the necessary shots and repeated several extra points to take advantage of the great opportunity to be inside the church alone without any restrictions.
