Empowering 3 Local Gems✨My Journey as a LG in the Streets of Madurai

In the heart of Madurai, TamilNadu I found three local businesses that embody the spirit of community and resilience…

Shop 1. Kerala Chips - Snacks Shop

Kerala Chips is a small shop located opposite the K Pudur Bus Stand in Madurai. The business owner is a hardworking and passionate gentleman who takes pride in every aspect of his work. He personally purchases raw materials, cooks the chips, packs, and sells them. His specialty is potato and Nendran banana chips cooked to perfection in coconut oil. :wheelchair::white_check_mark: The store front is accessible, making it convenient for all customers.

2. Burma Iddyappam Stall - Small Plate Restaurant

Idiyappam is one of the healthiest recipes from South India, often referred to as the Indian version of noodles . Made from rice flour, it’s steam-cooked to perfection, making it a soft and gut-friendly food suitable for all ages. Over time, millet-based variants have also gained popularity. You can enjoy idiyappam in both sweet and spicy options. For a sweet treat, it’s typically served with shredded coconut, palm jaggery, or sugar, and some people like to add a splash of milk or a drizzle of sesame oil. On the other hand, spicy options can be paired with a variety of chutneys and curries, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian.

Madurai Burma Iddyappam Stall is a renowned traditional idiyappam maker, operating as an evening small plate restaurant that offers takeaways only. They prepare and pack their idiyappam hot, fresh, and with love. Additionally, they accept catering orders for special occasions. Conveniently located on the main road, this restaurant is easily accessible :wheelchair::white_check_mark:, making it a great spot to grab a quick bite or pick up an order on-the-go

3. Adhavan and Co - Hardware Store

Adhavan and Co is a family-run shop in Vandiyur, Madurai. They sell electrical, plumbing, and hardware items. The family, including the father, son, and grandson, work together to run the shop. They help people in the area with their daily needs. However, the shop is :wheelchair::no_entry: not easily accessible for people with disabilities.

I’m humbled to have had the opportunity to help these small businesses in Madurai by visiting them in-person and taking actions to improve their online presence. Specifically:

  • For Kerala Chips, I reopened their permanently closed shop on the map and corrected the location pointer to ensure customers can find them easily.

  • For Burma Idiyappam Kadai, I reopened their store on the map, added working hours, helping them to regain visibility and attract new customers.

  • For Adhavan and Co, I created a new listing for their business on the map, putting them on the digital map and making it easier for customers to discover them.

My efforts aim to support these small businesses and help them thrive in the local community. Thanks for being an inspiration and guidance @TusharSuradkar @Kumaarsantosh @TravellerG @NareshDarji @PrasadVR @AjitThite @Gurukrishnapriya and all my LG fam
